Built 10 years ago near the Volcanoes National Park, the unique community-owned Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge provides such a positive benefit for conservation, the community and tourism. Built and managed by Governors Camp, and ideally located for gorilla trekking, the recently refurbished Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge sits in the foothills of the mighty Virunga Mountains with spectacular views of the volcanoes and surrounding countryside. The six stone cottages, two suites and a family cottage are spacious and consist of bedroom, en-suite dressing room and stylish bathroom, lounge area with fireplace, and a private terrace. The main lodge area comprises a reception, sitting room, dining room, library and souvenir shop. Large fireplaces provide comfort and warmth at the end of the day and all rooms are finished with polished wooden floors. The terrace areas afford guests some wonderful and dramatic views of the mountains. The activities on offer other than the primate treks range from bird watching to nature walks, cycling excursions and cultural visits, or guests can indulge in a specialised massage treatment designed to relax, refresh and rejuvenate after their gorilla or golden monkey trekking.
