Situated on the edge of Gonarezhou, Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge is a very special luxury lodge accommodating only up to 20 guests. Each individual lodge is light and spacious, simple and elegant, yet with all the comforts of home. The main ares of the lodge offers a sumptuous lounge, library, bar, dining room, and shaded swimming pool, all surrounded by beautifully tended gardens, with the African wilderness on the doorstep and elephants, hippos and crocodiles cooling off in the river. Enjoy exhilarating game drives, excursions to the epic red sandstone Chilojo Cliffs right in the heart of the park, or for those looking for a little more physical activity, start or end the day with a walk to the beautiful Chivilia Falls, trekking through the rugged landscape. Another highlight during the dry season between May and November, is a full-day excursion to the Chilojo Cliffs where a gourmet picnic lunch is served on the banks of the Runde River, followed by a sundowner game drive back to the lodge. A visit to Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge and Gonarezhou is as much about the local community as it is about the beauty of the natural landscape and the animals. Visitors can enjoy the riches of the Shangaan culture, partake in the wisdom of ages, and witness firsthand the bright promise of a truly sustainable future. Each September, the MaChangana Culture & Arts Festival takes place, an interactive experience between guests and the local Shangaan people.
This part of Zimbabwe is very remote but now accessible from Johannesburg twice a week with flights on Mondays and Thursdays during the dry winter season, being the best time of the year for game viewing.
