TAU PAN

Stark beauty and remoteness

The first semi-permanent safari camp ever to be built inside the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Tau Pan, meaning ‘Lion’ in Setswana, accommodates up to 18 guests in nine specially designed and spacious thatched units with ensuite bathrooms on raised decks overlooking a permanent waterhole. The camp offers truly incredible views from the ridge of an ancient sand dune, an unusual experience in a land as flat as Botswana, and overlooks the famous Tau Pan – recognised for its stark beauty and remoteness. The main area of camp with bar, lounge, dining area, curio shop and plunge pool sits around a fireplace which is an ideal place to sit and watch the wildlife congregating at the waterhole. The property is a model of environmental sensitivity, constructed with the delicate ecologies in mind and utilising 100% solar power for the generation of electricity, heating and pumping of water. Waste is treated in a state-of-the-art treatment plant and the fully treated water is returned to the Kalahari sands. Activities offered at Tau Pan include game drives conducted with a guide and tracker team in custom-designed 4X4 game-viewing vehicles with no more than six guests at a time, day trips to the well-known Deception Valley and the Pans, star gazing and nature walks with Bushman trackers. A visit to Tau Pan will give you an ideal desert and delta safari when combined with a stay in the Okavango Delta.
