DAMARALAND

Strikingly beautiful

Strikingly beautiful, diverse but arid and unforgiving, Damaraland occupies a huge stretch of landscape to the northwest of the country. The region’s wildlife and people have had to adapt to this harsh environment. In Damaraland you will find magnificent mountains with the Brandberg, Namibia’s highest at 2,753 metres. Erosion of wind and water has formed the landscape of rolling hills, dunes, plains and ancient dry riverbeds. This is true wilderness and an area of absolute scenic splendour. Attractions here include the geological sites of the UNESCO World Heritage Site of prehistoric Twyfelfontein with one of the largest and finest collections of rock art in Africa, and nearby the spectacular Burnt Mountain and Organ Pipes dating back millions of years.
